The Research Development Committee (RDC) of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) is charged with supporting and disseminating high quality research in the radiologic sciences. The RDC noted that there are parallel and sometimes overlapping programs in various radiology organizations, especially those with research committees and foundations. Improved communication and coordination between the organizations could benefit all of radiology by helping to focus each group’s efforts and facilitating an over-arching strategy. In 2005, the RDC sought to identify its counterparts in various organizations and invite the chairs of those programs to open up a dialogue for programmatic coordination. The resulting collaborative group of 16 organizations, the IORC (Inter Organizational Research Council), meets several times a year via conference calls and person-to-person meetings. The IORC is developing several projects to foster radiologic research including a joint website (www.radresearch.org) that collates information about research resources. The intent of this website is to provide one site with information from all the participating organizations concerning funding opportunities, links to their websites, educational opportunities, and applications/forms for funding/awards. Organizations interested in joining the IORC should contact Tracy Schmidt at RSNA (tschmidt@rsna.org). Mission_____________________________________________________________ The mission of the IORC is to foster radiologic research through improved communication about and coordination of funding and research education opportunities. |
